Minnesota Trucking Attorney Laws

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety adopted the federal regulations Title 49, parts 382-284 and 390-399 of the federal regulations.

The following is an overview of these laws:

Parts and Accessories:

Tank trailers and distributor trailers used only for transporting liquid, gaseous, or dry fertilizer, and not over 12,000lb., are not required to have breaks of the truck towing the trailer. Brakes must be capable of meeting the Minnesota stopping distance requirements. Other Minnesota parts and accessory laws fall under part 393 of the Federal law.

Inspection and Maintenance:

An annual inspection of commercial motor vehicles in Minnesota must be done. This legislation was passed in May 1990. It is illegal for a drier to operate a commercial motor vehicle unless the vehicle displaces an inspection decal issued by a certified inspector.

Daily inspections must also be completed and the procedures are similar to those in Sec.396.11 of the Federal law.
